The last day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children.

The camp started with physical fitness, yoga and aerobics. Then boys continued playing Football and girls, Ball Badminton for a short while

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Subha engaged the students with the topic ‘Scientists’. The chart work by her made the children learn about five great scientists and their contribution in the field of science

The day ended with the closing ceremony. Mr. N Rajasekaran, Correspondent and Secretary SRMHSS and VCHSS addressed the students and gave some tips on life followed by Mr. D Senthilkumar, Principal, TIMHSS who also spoke to children on education and behaviour how it s interlinked.

Then the children shared their experiences in the camp. The Best Performers were honoured and certificates were distributed to all children who had maintained more than 50% attendance. The children who had brought maximum seed balls were also awarded prizes.

The ninth day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children to provide them energy for the fun packed day ahead.

The camp started with physical fitness, yoga and aerobics followed by Football for boys and Ball Badminton for girls.

During the session, Resource person Mr. Rohit Damodharan met the children and shared his life experiences. Mr Rohit Damodharan is a well known cricketer who had been in the Kolkata Knight Riders Squad in the year 2010, England county player and right now with Srilankan League.

He shared his childhood experiences, as how he started as a cricketer, also insisted on how education plays a major role in shaping our future. He also shared the failures he faced during cricket team selections. On the whole, he gave useful tips to students on how to balance sports and education.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Cressentia , Mrs. Geetha Rajan from T.I anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Giving and receiving feedback’.

The sessions started with eliciting feedback experiences from students .

Then the children’s enthusiastic participation in “Giving their feedback” was a success.

At end of the session, the children asked to pen down their feedbacks about the PD sessions on the black board.

Feedback forms regarding summer camp were distributed to students yesterday and the same was collected today for consolidation.

The eighth day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children to provide them energy for the fun packed day ahead.

The camp started with test session for physical fitness, yoga and aerobics followed by Football for boys and Ball Badminton for girls.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Usha, Mrs. Sreelatha and Ms. Rama from T.I anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Team work and Relationship’.

“Treasure your relationships, not your possessions.”

The sessions started with a jumble game where various value related words were jumbled and the children were asked to solve it.

Then the children’s enthusiastic participation made the “Command and Jump” game a success. Then, a video clip was played followed by story time which conveyed the importance of ‘Team work’.

The end of the session was the highlight. The children were provided sticky notes and asked to pen down what are the values they have learnt so far in this camp and the participation of children in this activity was commendable.

Today was also a special day. We had with us Mr. Narasimha Rao’, District Inspector of Physical Education, Thiruvallur as a resource who gave a motivational talk on the importance of sports in the field of education. The children paid rapt attention to his speech.

The camp started with physical fitness and aerobics was introduced today. Then boys continued playing Football and girls, Ball Badminton.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Parasakthi, Mrs. Prasanna and Mrs. Dorthy from T.I anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Effective Communication’. The crux of the session was

  • Communication can be verbal and non verbal
  • It plays an important role in connecting with people
  • How can communication make us go up high or as well as low if not handled properly

These values were conveyed through the following activities :

  • Spiral walk
  • Dumb charades
  • Passing the ball
  • Video clips

The sixth day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children.

The camp started with physical fitness, yoga and aerobics. Then boys continued playing Football and girls, Ball Badminton.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Padma and Mrs. Uma Maheswari of SRM anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Moral / Human Values’.

The session started with a story time on values that children need to inculcate when they are young.

The Fifth day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children.

The camp started with physical fitness, yoga and aerobics. Then boys continued playing Football and girls, Ball Badminton.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mr. Dushyanthan and Mr. Dhanraj Sekar of T.I. anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Managing Emotions’.

“Don’t let your emotions distract you from doing what needs to be done. Control your emotions so your emotions do not control you.”

The session started with a sharing session on

  • How the children feel during the camp sessions.
  • The different emotions they showed during the session… etc to elicit response from them about different emotions and reactions based on situations.

This was followed by a beautiful video called ‘Nail in the Fence’ which showed how the nail leaves a hole in the fence even when it is removed. Similarly, the children learnt that‘damage once done, cannot be taken back.’

Then the children enjoyed doing the paper activity and finally the session ended with ‘Tips on how to manage your emotions especially anger’.

The camp started with physical fitness and aerobics was introduced today. Then boys continued playing Football and girls, Ball Badminton.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Suba and Mrs. Rajeswari from SRM anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Be Cool’. The crux of the session was

  • Stay cool, come what may
  • Be patient
  • Avoid being hasty

These values were conveyed through the following activities :

  • Balloon burst and rearrange the Thirukkural
  • Drawing a dot in the centre
  • Story time
  • Video clips

The third day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children to boost their energy levels.

The camp started with physical fitness, yoga, followed by Football for boys and Ball Badminton for girls.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

For a fun twist, today’s personality development session was all about cooking without fire.

To begin with, we screened a video clip on some recipes which didn’t involve the use of fire.

The kids were taught to prepare Bhelpuri and Fruit Smoothies.

What the kids learnt

  • Being independent
  • Helping parents with their chores

The second day of the camp started at 6.10am with distribution of milk and fruit to children to provide them energy for the fun packed day ahead.

The camp started with physical fitness, followed by Football for boys and Ball Badminton for girls.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Pankajam from SRM anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Social responsibility’. It was apt for the day since April 22nd is celebrated as ‘Earth Day’.

“The earth does not belong to us, we belong to the earth.”

The children were asked to pen down their thoughts on what social responsibility means and why should they be socially responsible.

It was great to see children come out with variety of topics/ issues which need to be addressed on a war-footing basis like :

  • Air pollution
  • Rain water harvesting
  • Afforestation
  • Water Scarcity – measures to avoid the same

Followed by that activity was a demo session anchored by SRM girls aboutmaking seed balls.

Seed Balls – an ancient technique for propagating plants from seeds without opening up soil with cultivation tools such as a plow. The balls were made using cow dung, natural fertilizer, clay and seeds like puvarasu, neem and tamarind. A print out on how to make the balls was also distributed to all students.

Mrs. Pankajam made it interesting at the end of the camp by announcing that the student who makes the most number of balls and distributes it to the neighborhood while in the process also educating them about its benefits will win a prize.

The session ended with the screening of video clips on the importance of planting trees.

On the whole, the session had a good message for the students

Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit.

Summer Sports camp 2016-17 was inaugurated on the 21st of April 2017 at SRM School by our beloved Secretary AMMF Mr. A. Rajagopal and by
Mr. N. Rajasekaran, Correspondent & Secretary, SRMHSS and VCHSS.

The camp started at 6.10am with the children being milk and fruit to provide them energy for the fun packed day ahead.

The programme then commenced with an inspiring welcome note by Mr. N. Rajasekaran, who addressed the children about the importance of staying fit physically and mentally, followed by a motivational talk by Mr. A. Rajagopal on the benefits of keeping fit.

Later, T-shirts were distributed to all students and the camp started with physical fitness, followed by Football for boys and Ball Badminton for girls.

After the sports session, children enjoyed their breakfast which got them up and ready for the Personality Development session.

Mrs. Radha Ganesh and Mrs. Mary Bennett anchored the PD session. The topic was ‘Believe in yourself”.

Follow your dreams, believe in yourself and don’t give up !

The children showed immense levels of enthusiasm and involvement in the activities and a few video clips were also screened. It was good to see that the take home value “Believe in you” reached children which was analyzed by the way they answered the questions thrown to them by our anchors when the session came to an end.
