Cycling Grade 1 Report - "THE LITTLE ONES PEDALLING AROUND…"

"When the children arrive, the best you can hope for is that they break open everything about you. Your mind floods with oxygen. Your heart becomes a room with open windows."

The COVID-19 pandemic brought a complex array of challenges which had mental health repercussions for everyone, including children and adolescents. Uncertainty, social isolation, increased screen time, and parental fatigue have negatively affected the mental health of children.

These circumstances eventuated to the organization of the cycling activity on 4th of February 2022, in the kinder garden playground. The students of grade one had the privilege to participate in the activity.

On a bike, you can leave the stress behind and pedal your way into the carefree world. The rationale behind this activity was to rejuvenate and engage the children in activities beyond their academics. The school had received 5 cycles from TI Cycles of India. The students were divided into groups of 5 members who enjoyed cycling while the rest were entertained in the play area. "A pure soul seeks wishes in nature's wild". The students relished in letting their innocent, fearless hearts set free.

The senior student council members acquired the opportunity to interact with the children and enlighten them about their surroundings. The students acquainted themselves with their environment. During the session, they were also familiarized with the trees and butterflies around the campus alongside the vermicompost and the butterfly garden. Moreover, the kids were encouraged to communicate in English all through.

Summing it all, it would suffice to say that the activity refreshed the minds and hearts of the children, and rekindled their wild hearts. Well, nothing compares to the simple pleasure of riding a bike.

"Keep your child wild. Don't make them grow up too fast."

If there is something you can give or share with other people, never hesitate to do that. These little things you do can lighten someone's life. The short film 'Umbrella', stressed these qualities every human should possess. This short film was screened for classes VI, VII & VIII on the 12th of February, 2022.

The students shared their thoughts after watching the film. Some of the points put forth by the students were:

  • It is good to share what we have, to put a smile in one's life.
  • It is necessary to understand the perspectives of other people.
  • One should establish the virtue of empathy, to keep the humanity in us alive.
  • Not just things, we can share emotions with people who need them. Like the girl in the movie, not just gave things to the children in the orphanage but also established a home with the little boy.
  • We can gain happiness by making others happy. Like the girl in the movie was initially hesitant to give away her toys but became happy by seeing
